SCA-enjoyed an event... and missed an event and am missing another today.
I feel just horrible that I had to perform surgery on a scroll... wish it happened sooner and a new one could be made
Darn little devil and his bag of mistakes had some fun too *sigh*
Still have the plain copy of the txt here as I forgot to leave instructions for Shannon as I headed out the door Friday evening :S
Other stuff... may scratch more lists, that felt good!
and being poor and not being able to do much this year (possibly) is actually a big relief! For some reason, I think I'm needing some home time...
Oh... and I can not say other people's speaches... if I had half a brain about me and thought that I would ever have to do that, I'd be fine... seriously! I feel really really horrible and react very oddly but I am capeable with enough forthought... I did stage acting (even made money lol) and even sung solo on stage but it took a good deal of practice of course. Think I need some practice or am going to have to seek some sort of social demotion!
Riverview free yardsale week has barely begun, I'm so disappointed
It isn't even 11:00 and I feel horribly sleepy... I feel the crash coming on, too many late nights... don't wanna work on any projects, don't want to research, not even play a game... not even tv-brain-rot!
zzzzzzzzz....
- Mood:
kinda crappy kinda good
I think it looks ok... hard call *sigh*
Other news... garbage week is coming to an end... think I might even miss all the folk poking in our garbage and taking it away (yeah, Moncton is a bit red-necky)... Taken from our pile: stroller, baby seat (still safe), planters, part of an old washing machine, old steel lawn chairs, a rusty bike, a broken easel, some old rusty car bits... and other odd bits...
Brought home from other junk piles: A solid wood desk with bookshelf, a solid wood sidetable (with small piece off of foot broken but in a baggy tied to the table lol), 2 wood chairs, a pine drop-leaf table, a very high basket, some folding tables, a folding chair, a small step ladder, an army canteen, a pine tool caddy... think that's about it.
conspiracy theories and all... no, not just like the movie but over little things...
I figure a lot of it is insecurity and some of it is simply hate... maybe a little drama lust thrown in there (or maybe a lot)
Then... when it begins to revolve around something like the sca, it just gets to a new level of stupid
I will admit though, that I have been on both sides of that coin and it isn't pretty and just leaves you with the dumb
To come off as possibly sounding really simple,
I met a lot of folk who can not stand each other in the game and have found good things about them and stripped of all the stuff that makes whomever a such-n'-such or whatever, I am hard pressed to see them as any different from you or I. The garb is not real folks, it is make believe... the people however... are real.
I'm also slightly realistic... I know I won't get long with or like everyone... best to just not bother with them and try not to think about it, be nice but you can't force friendships and fighting is too much work (or pointless, whichever makes you feel better). It seems like the normal thing to do.
Now, if only we can do something about the people who phone ssentients work place because they unplugged their computer or turned off their modem... lol, but that's is a different kind of head smack!
So... am hittin the cortisone, it doesn't make it go to way but controls it a bit.
I hate this, my ears are full of it too (people are always telling me to clean my ears)... and when it shows it makes me look dirty or like I have some sort of contagious disease!
*grumble grumble*
sun or no, it comes and it stays or it goes... none can be done about it.
*grumble grumble*
we are all entitled to the occasional grumble over silly things...
Please tell me your not one... MonaVie juice buisness pushers... those MLM folk scare me and they are here, crawling around Moncton, lurking in corners and trying to share this wonderful opportunity :P
My friends sister is involved and someone she hasn't talked to in a year is coming to her place with a friend today... to pick up archery stuff that belongs to the kids... and they are hooked... I feel sorry for my friend for having to deal with these folk.
Basically, think Amway... it is kinda cult-like and these people spend thousands of dollars going to conventions to listen to promotional speach and more importantly... by promotional books! oh yeah...
I'm sorry, if I want juice, I'll by it at the local grociery :P
just thinkin...
my plate is allready heaping lol
What I'm suspecting here is... well, I'm not really expecting anything... (this post being all about the pictures under the cut... Beuckelaer paintings) I have been pondering them for years really and know a few things and don't know a lot of things! :P
-They are possibly supportive and quite possibly not
-Closer examination drives me back to my earlier thought of them not being boned, the tube-effect is most likely due to it being cinched under the laces.
-the tube-effect could possibly provide support
-I played with flimsy... I doubt they are flimsy
-The stiffness could be simply due to the nature of the fabric
-It could be lined or it may not be
-the partlet is usually inside, which could mean it was done intentionally or it could mean things just slipped... -it often matches the apron but not always so it probably is not the apron
-we are doomed to view these paintings with a costumers eye (if we are looking to re-create the clothing)
-the older woman is wearing something similar to what other oler women are wearing in other paintings, but this one has more detail... she also has more layers of stuff peeping through. It is quite possible that she is also wearing far more layers than a younger person would on the same day (which she is).
-it would have to be that wide to create the tube-effect found in paintings where the women are not so loose!
-I used to think it could possibly be an undergarment but do not beleive it would be so comfortable attached, yet it could explain why it doesn't just fall out when the ladies are coming all undone... and ahy it seems to ride up a bit near the armpits.
-In one picture (the second, top row) you can see a little partlet hanging out, this supports it as being one piece sans skirt or body, the way it rides up also supports that.
-It is likely fairly long as a floating piece
-I actually don't know how uncomfortable it would be... if it isn't boned, it might not be that uncomfortable to wear undone.... kinda like taking off the bra for a bit, not sure about that in public, but again... what is the painter saying here? He seems kinda drawn to the whole thing too...
-Aertsen, on the other hand, seems a bit more into the tight lacing over the tube-effect-thingy with boobage spilling forth into the undergarment and partlet.
- Mood:
curious
I blew it up :P it is a bit more scant on detail, but given the size, it isn't a whole lot worse....
Yes... it is rather weird isn't it :P
There is another like it somewhere... more peculiar though
RH824 - 1740s-70s Closed Robe Anglais (I made the open one from Janet arnold years ago and found it a pretty dress but difficult to draft)
RH836 - Regency Half-Robe and Robe
RH831 - 1790s-1810s Lady's Riding or Traveling Outfit
RH830 -1770s-1780s Lady's Riding or Traveling Outfit
(RH101 - Bodice and Petticote)(ok... think I could draft that myself but including it here cause I like it)
Now, with their regency, I can't tell from the picture so would have to inquire if any of them are bib front... though I do know of one company that either has a pattern or instructions (can't recall right now) that has a true bib front... that would be so cool.
If any, I would favour #2, 3, and 4 but would not buy them all at once... or maybe I would...
Or... for my persona:
Rhineland red ware beaker
and/or
Siegburg ware Drinking Jug
and the
White Border ware Pipkin
Which I would place in more importance over the patterns! I'd be very happy with the beaker and the pipkin...hmmm...
reconstructing history
Thinking of dragging one of the baby strollers out...
Free yard-sale week is so much fun!
:)
Edit: Wow! the broken easel is gone... now I'm pondering what else to donate to the vultures, actually, I don't mean that badly, I like that it is finding a home than finding landfill! It would be a terrible shame if the city didn't let us drag this all out early.
Think I'll head out tomorrow morning with more!
Real world... pretty good
am excited about the persona thing, got a nice high basket for her for the time being... cost was free *grins*
Made some sketches of things... some of interest, some of just varied junk...
Since I understand my sketches, they are quicker and hadier when spotting out stuff or making things:
so far have:a trammel, door/doorhinges, strainer/collander, table, beaker, lantern, grater, spoon, lamp, cupboard, chip basket, rosaries, mouthharp, bags and pouches, mirror, toy drum, hobby horse, gloves, bellows, stools, candlesticks, strainer/sifter, hammer, pots/jugs, wagon, strong box, ball, windows, tub, shoes, funnel, bed curtain set up... chimney placement... just notes though, mostly only useful to me :P
How many people read or have access to my LJ... actually, I think it is more like I feel who would be interested? or who needs to know? about my humdrum life that is... which isn't bad, just not worth writing about much. Will wait till is stresses me out lol
- Mood:
should be sleepy
Thing is, I have never... in the modern sense, seen it done right... not anything that actually looked like the paintings... I'd like to do it right but know it is an impossible task right now (maybe when some actual clothing shows up or we gain the power to time travel for real!).
But, key phrase: I know better
as in I know better than to offer at hot events in the summer... don't do well in the sun, an evening child am I
it is more than just the sun-light, so no... a shade tent is not enough!
People are welcome to come here anytime though... when I'm working on a project, but can't promise that it will be exciting or will reveal instant results... have been known to talk an ear off about anything that is interesting me at that time!
cleaning, cleaning, cleaning... big garbage day is next week and I am on a seek and garbage mission! We had so much garbage and junk dumped on us by well meaning, charitable people that now I have to take advantage of this once a year occurrence. I'm talking stuff you wouldn't even want to give to the sally-anns... like the scratched and bubbled fry pans my mom tossed down to us... I may not be wealthy but I do spend my money on things so we can have safe cookware! A few items will be dropped off as donations, though my friends are pressuring me to yard sale... BTW... I don't mind going to yard sales but do not like putting on one!
I do, however, have an bin of antiques that I just don't have the space for (which means, am not using/are not sentimental to me) which I think is fit enough for yard sale. One thing I despise is going to a yard sale and seeing tons of clothes and really crappy junk... as in broken items without even any historic interest or tons of dollar store crap and crappy craft sales! Blah!
I must go work on Ryans arrows some more... my little project was interupted last night so we could see Iron Man (something I had to take advantage of)... it had some lameness and sillyness and all that... And I loved every minute of it! I had fun, but then I so love those types of movies!
I also found up my old blanket... and I mean old! I would have liked it to be a tabby weave but it is twill which is still fine I guess... what is neat about it is that it was woven on a smaller loom and the two blankets had to be sewn together to make one for a typical twin size bed and on top of this, it has been darned like mad! (moths ya know!) and I can see a few holes and bits where it could use a little more help.
Like a worn out teddy bear, this is my favorite blanket, not bad for a simple undyed blanket that has been to nowhere-nice and back.
Now for a pillow... still wish I had that big bag of goose down (I used to keep geese) :S
need more reading anyhow
Making Ryan some decent arrows for his under 10# bow... ok, sca legal arrows with points that might actually stick in the targets we presently use. Wonder if the bow and the boy can do it.
It isn't everyday I wander in the new wrecked room, seems I still have someones (here, on LJ... so if your reading this...) left fletchamajigamabob... I seriously need to return this and I seriously need the reminder Gah! I hate having others people stuff that long, it is partly why I so hate to borrow stuff!!!
So, why have I stopped and started arrows on and off... dissatifaction with glue, that's it! and something so small as that! Will never be a great fletcher by any means, and am not striving to become the best or anything... I just like dabbling :)
Scrolls:
Out of paper, need to buy some...
Going to go on a small scroll binge, at least until my knuckles give out. Not really painful, just annoying!
Other:
Showed a friend the Firemountain site... at least two people agree: Firemountaingems is evil.
Brought one of my Spring Lee Valley garden cats. to her place... I beleive several people now are sure that Lee Valley is evil too!
...they are so fun to look through though :)
Of course, this is a wish list, it might not mean that she gets everything!
